Development of silica-based optical materials by sol-gel method

Silica glass is an amorphous transparent material whose physical and chemical properties are outstanding. Thus, silica glasses may be suitable as host materials for optically-active centers, such as rare earth ions and transition metals. We are trying to develop silica-based monolithic functional optical materials by sol-gel method, with avoiding two main drawbacks of sol-gel method, fracture during drying and sintering, and long processing time.
